The AgreenSkills’ mission

AgreenSkills and AgreenSkills+ aim to increase the research potential in terms of people, equipment and infrastructures at an international level and better address key global challenges through the capacity building of individual researchers.

AgreenSkills and AgreenSkills+ are international mobility programmes that aim to attract promising and talented junior and senior researchers, respectively, from all disciplines to develop basic, applied or targeted research projects within Agreenium-IAVFF  laboratories. Projects can have both disciplinary and multi-disciplinary approaches in the fields of agriculture, food and nutrition, environment, animal health and veterinary public health. AgreenSkills and AgreenSkills+ also provide opportunities for outgoing international mobility for researchers working in a laboratory of an Agreenium-IAVFF member organization.

Eligible candidates and laboratories

AgreenSkills (2012-2016) was open to young researchers holding a PhD who have less than 7 year's research experience from the date of their PhD thesis defence.

AgreenSkills+  (2014-2019) has wider eligibilty criteria, welcoming projects from young experienced and independent researchers with up to a maximum of 10 years of postdoctoral research experience (career breaks not included). There are no conditions of nationality, or country of origin; the only aim being to attract the best researchers, and bring together researchers with complementary expertise, from all around the world.

AgreenSkills+ enables talented scientists to identify the most suitable laboratories for their research project through an eligibility round, which consists of a CV and project analysis. The selection process is designed to help applicants to identify right combination between their own profile, the host laboratory, and the research project to be proposed.

Timeline and opportunities

AgreenSkills programme has been implemented over a 4 year period, beginning in September 2012, providing opportunities for 142 fellow years of mobility, of which approximately 20% are outgoing and 80% are incoming.

AgreenSkills+ has been set up as a successor to the AgreenSkills programme and is implemented over a 5 year period, from 2014 to 2019 ; it will provide 212 fellow years of mobility, of which 31% are outgoing and 69% are incoming.

In addition to the scientific skills development and collaborative opportunities offered to each fellow, fellowships also provide an individual training and career development plan, which together form the components needed to achieve the AgreenSkills Pass .

The very attractive conditions in terms of salary, hosting conditions and training opportunities as well as the bottom-up approach to research topics ensure the global appeal of these programmes.
